Madison County is not known for its livestock. Our main domesticated farm animal is cattle. According the the 2007 Census of Agriculture Madison County ranked 69th in the state for head of cattle and calves with 11,079. In 2010 we had only one large pork producer and only one dairy. We ranked 8th in the state for pork, 54th for horses with 1,076, 65th for goats with 643, and 89th for layers with 259. The market value for livestock, poultry, and their products totaled $5,300,000 in 2007.
