Filter Strips

Filter Strips are generally strips of grasses and or legumes non woody vegetation established adjacent to and parallel to streams with the purpose of reducing sediment and other contaminates from cropland, grazing land, or disturbed land areas from entering streams. Filter strips also help to stabilize ditch banks and can serve to keep sand and other debris from pouring across crop fields during out of bank flows. Filter strips are generally 30 to 120 feet wide.
